Section Ten is
where the bees live
Our Sweet Story
Nestled southeast of Wainwright, Alberta, near the small community of Edgerton, Section Ten Honey Co. is located on land owned by Essex Bar Farms. Section Ten is where the bees live!
At Section Ten Honey we pride ourselves on being a small, local bee yard with sustainable practices. We started raising bees as a response to the loss of natural habitats for pollinators, and the desire to help support the success of our local farms (we're farmers, too!)
Now, six years after we started out, we've grown from four hives to nearly 100 hives. The bee yard has expanded - we're so fortunate to have neighbours who welcome some of our hives in their fields for a few months a year, during the busy spring and summer season. Their willingness allows us to split hives and, by fall, increase the amount of honey produced. That increased production is what made us to decide it was time to share our delicious, all natural honey, made by bees that freely roam the local fields.
On this site we'll share what we know, from hive practices to recipes we've discovered.
Thanks for joining us!

Meet Our Family-Based Team
Doug Jackson
Just like the bees, Doug grew up on Section 10. He farmed the land for many years and started thinking about how the loss of natural habitat was affecting pollinators. Doug took a few courses and read a few books, then he bought four beehives. Now he's the heart and soul of Section 10 Honey Co., which has grown to nearly 100 hives this year.
Diane Hutchinson Jackson
Diane is learning more about bees and honey than she ever expected. Recently 'retired', Diane is the assistant beekeeper when required and also helps with some of the production aspects. She's taken a Food Handling course to ensure honey preparation and packaging meets all the standards. In other words, she tells Doug what to do in the kitchen.
Brendan Jackson
The oldest of the Jackson children, Brendan has made Section Ten Honey Co.'s expansion possible, by building all the necessary hive boxes, top covers, bottom boards and more. Without him, the bees would be homeless!
